What is Cardboard Diet & is it Healthy? 

There is no specific definition of a Cardboard Diet on the internet and in offline Journals. That’s why we are considering the Cardboard diet as a form of diet that is tasteless and has low nutritional value. 

Why Cardboard diet is in trend? 

Most people think that a tasteless diet is generally healthy, but this is a myth. Have you eaten overcooked food? does it taste well and have great nutritional value? Of course not. 

When it is recommended to eat tasteless food?

Generally, when people suffer from illness, doctors recommend they eat tasteless food. Some circumstances when you should eat a tasteless diet are

  1. Recovery after surgery: Our digestive system gets affected for a certain period, mainly when someone undergoes surgery. This causes inflammation in the digestive area.
  2. Digestive Issues:- When people suffer from digestion issues like acid reflux, it’s recommended to eat tasteless food. Spicy food may worsen the condition. 
  3. For Weight loss: For those who want to lose weight, it’s recommended to eat tasteless food like boiled vegetables, grilled chicken, and fish without any salt or sugar seasoning. 
  4. After food poison:- It is recommended to eat tasteless and bland food just after someone suffers from food poisoning because digestive walls may be sensitive. But after a few days, a normal diet can be taken.

  1. Boiled Vegetables: Boiled Vegetables are rich in fiber and help to aid digestion. Processed and cooked foods may lose their nutritional value but boiled veggies help to preserve their nutritional value. 
  2. Plain Rice:- Plain rice is one of the healthiest gains which digest easily and provides energy to the body through carbohydrates. Some people avoid eating rice considering it unhealthy, but it’s a myth. 
  3. Bland protein sources: Bland protein sources like Plain chicken breast, Tofu, Boiled eggs, Whitefish, etc are some tasteless and high protein-rich foods. 
  4. Oatmeal: Generally people add toppings like sweeteners, dry fruits, and chopped fruits in oats but if you want tasteless oatmeal then it can be taken with milk without adding any toppings and sweeteners. 
  5. Unsweetened Peanut Butter: Certain brands sell peanut butter without adding sugar to it. This suits those who want tasteless food with health benefits.

 1: Tasteless food is always healthy: Not all tasteless food is healthy. For Ex: overcooked and highly processed food are tasteless but unhealthy. As it loses all its nutrients when cooked for a longer period.

2: Adding salt and sugar makes food unhealthy: Adding a small pinch of salt won’t be unhealthy. The requirement for salt is not fixed for all body types, however, it is recommended to take salt based on age, sex, and health status. Mainly 2,300 milligrams of salt (1 teaspoon) is recommended daily. 

3: Healthy foods are tasteless: Not all healthy foods are tasteless, For example, Foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, nuts and seeds, herbs, and spices are some tasty and healthy options. 

4: Tasteless food is easy to digest: Not all tasteless food needs to be easy to digest. For Example, highly cooked food for longer periods loses taste and is hard to digest. 

5: Tasteless food is Low in calories: Generally people think that if they’re eating foods which is tasteless then they’re not consuming calories. But this is a myth, foods like white rice, plain oatmeal, and boiled potatoes are tasteless but high in calories foods.

1: Fruits: Fruits are a fine source of soluble and insoluble fiber which is good for gut health. Many fruits except a few are low in calories but rich in nutrients and vitamins like vitamin C and vitamin E. List of some healthy fruits are apples, oranges, papayas, and kiwi.

2: Dark Chocolates: Antioxidants present in dark chocolate protect our bodies from cancer and heart disease caused by free radicals. Dark chocolate positively influences mental health because it has a small amount of caffeine. 

3: Berries: Berries are rich in vitamins and minerals like Vitamin C, Vitamin K, potassium, and manganese. As per some researchers, berries help to boost cognitive functions. Some common berries are blueberry, blackberry, and strawberry. 

4: Dry Fruits: Dry fruits are a rich source of potassium, iron, and vitamin E. They are also rich in fiber and antioxidants which support healthy digestion and protect us from damage caused by free radicals.

5: Leafy Vegetables: Leafy vegetables are low in calories but have significant vitamins like vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin K. Fiber present in leafy vegetables promotes a healthy gut and antioxidants helps to protect our body from free radicals.

6: Whole Grain: Whole grains like quinoa, brown rice, and oats are rich in vitamins and minerals that help prevent heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. As per some studies, wholegrains enhance the lifespan and help to maintain a healthy weight for a lifetime.
